PROJECTS

Projects that have
a social impact

We work in the community offering a wide range of opportunities to support creatives to be the best they can be. We believe in providing mentors to support the development of skills  across a broad range of art forms.

ELEVATE

Large Scale Community Murals

Elevate is a mentor project supporting artists to create large scale murals that have impact. Elevate gives artists the opportunity to showcase their work on a broader scale and be mentored by experienced professionals. Elevate is sharing art in a positive and vibrant way to allow the public of all ages to celebrate colour, shape and form. Through a broad range of partnerships Dream Big is able to support artists to create their vision.

The murals will then be rotated around Hawke’s Bay in identified areas of significance, in parks, for festivals, hung in urban environments or used at events or festivals throughout Hawke’s Bay.

We currently have two murals in Hastings and Napier. In Hastings we have ‘Good Vibes Only’ by Sonia Bass which hangs in Albert Square. It captures our region in vibrant colour and celebrates our art deco form. In Napier we have ‘Generation Next’ by Rachael Stone and Glen Colechin which was created for the short film OPIA. It showcases our hero actors Noah Kaio and Maia Bassett-Foss.

KAHURANGI TOI ĀTEA

National Screen Industry Training Initiative

Dream Big has worked as the connector to build partnerships, represented Te Wānanga Whare Tapere o Takitimu and established the Kahurangi Toi Ātea Programme in Hawke’s Bay and Nationally. The role was diverse in nature and enabled our team to work across strategy creation, curriculum development, delivery, assessment and pastoral care.

SHARE THE KNOWLEDGE, Screen Industry training specialists and leading educational provider in Māori Performing Arts, TE WĀNANGA WHARE TAPERE O TAKITIMU, in partnership with TOI MAI Workforce Development Council and with support from Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage, have designed an industry-led screen industry training programme for production crew – KAHURANGI TOI ĀTEA.

The programme was launched in Christchurch from October-December 2024 on the feature film HOLY DAYS, with the intention of developing a national programme of work-based training for screen.

Each course has a classroom (preparation) & workplace (application) learning component for entry, intermediate and senior level roles within a film or TV production. At the end of the course, successful participants are awarded a Certificate in Screen Industry Craft Skills.

LINK PROJECT

Intergenerational Connections

The Link Project is a multigenerational project that links together older adults and teenagers through shared storytelling. Everyone has a story you just need to shape it so it resonates across generations and highlights how technology, social norms, beliefs, trends evolve to inform the way we live.

A number of older adults have shared their stories and educator Jo Morris works to identify what in their story links to teenagers today. A curriculum is then shaped and schools have the opportunity to engage with stories of significance. Teachers and students are then supported with educational experts to capture, design and reflect through storytelling how they resonate with this generational change.

If you want to share your story or your school wants to engage with the Link Project make sure you reach out to us today
